The Therapy Process

My clients are adults who are motivated and open to self exploration. This therapy is not for everyone. You must be able to endure some emotional discomfort in order to tolerate this process. I am a psycho-dynamic therapist which means that I can help you identify patterns of problematic behaviors, thoughts, emotions and even physical sensations which cause you to make the same mistakes over and over. Many of these patterns are unconscious. You adapted to these beliefs, (also called character strategies) to help you survive in your family of origin environment. Many of these old habits no longer serve you but you unknowingly repeat them because they are ingrained in your mind and body.  The more that you are aware of these patterns, the more you will be free to practice and choose new thoughts, emotions, behaviors and even the way that you feel and experience your body!
In the process of therapy, you will have a growing awareness of behaviors and beliefs that are hurting you instead of helping you. Coping mechanisms that were necessary for your survival in childhood may be harming you as an adult. Effective psychotherapy is all about having more choices.

I use a combination of somatic therapy, psychodrama and parts work. Somatic therapy is a practice that reveals how your body holds your beliefs and experiences about the world. Psychodrama is a technique of reenacting stories in your life instead of talking about them. Parts work is understanding the different components of personality and how the parts function together.

Somatic Therapy is based on the truth that emotions are experienced in sensations in the body and that the more body awareness that we have, the better we can take care of ourselves by being mindful of our needs and true feelings. These methods of therapy: somatic therapy, psychodrama and parts work have been shown to be effective in healing trauma, anxiety, depression, grief as well as helpful in helping people learn coping skills to manage mood instability through body awareness and practicing healthy relationships with themselves and others.

I have over 10 years experience as a therapist. I have been trained in treating trauma and other mental health conditions using these expressive techniques including somatic therapy, psychodrama and parts work. I am currently enrolled in a 4 year somatic therapy program entitled, "Somatic Psychotherapy Training in Contemporary Orgone Therapy".
I also attend ongoing supervision with my colleagues.
